Skipton youths sentenced for stealing from 94-year-old man.

Two Skipton youths have been convicted of theft after stealing £353.75 from an elderly man.

The youths, aged 15 and 16, stole the money from the 94-year-old after befriending him over a period of months.  
The pair were charged with three counts of theft each. Both pleaded guilty and were sentenced at Skipton Youth Court on 17 June 2013 when they were handed restraining orders preventing them from contacting the victim.
The 16-year-old was ordered to pay costs of £310 and a £15 surcharge. The 15-year-old was ordered to pay costs of £120.
Both received an eight-month youth offending referral order.
Sergeant Paul Evans of Skipton Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: "This was a cruel and callous act against a trusting and vulnerable elderly man.
"I hope this sends a message that we will take action against anyone who targets and takes advantage of vulnerable people
"People must not suffer in silence and anyone who may be victimised should not hesitate to contact the police. We will take action to protect them."
